How It Works

Important Safety Information
Budesonide/formoterol combinations are not intended as sole treatment for acute bronchospasm or sudden worsening of asthma or COPD. Caution is also warranted with other adrenergic medicines, certain heart rhythm medicines, and drugs that may increase the risk of beta-agonist effects such as palpitations or tremor.
In COPD, clinicians monitor carefully for pneumonia and other lower respiratory tract infections, since inhaled corticosteroids may increase this risk in some patients. As with other corticosteroid-containing inhalers, oral fungal infection can occur.
Possible Side Effects
Common adverse effects reported for budesonide/formoterol products include headache, upper respiratory tract symptoms, throat irritation, cough, sinusitis, bronchitis, nasal congestion, stomach discomfort, vomiting, and oral candidiasis. Some patients may also experience tremor, palpitations, or muscle cramps related to the formoterol component.
Less common but more serious reactions can include paradoxical bronchospasm, immediate hypersensitivity reactions, adrenal suppression with excessive corticosteroid exposure, and, in patients with COPD, pneumonia or other lower respiratory infections. Any marked worsening of breathing after use requires urgent medical assessment.
