Sildenafil must not be used with nitrates or nitric oxide donors because of the risk of marked hypotension. Caution is also advised in patients with cardiovascular disease, priapism risk factors, or a history of vision loss related to non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy.
Possible Side Effects
Common adverse effects include headache, flushing, dyspepsia, nasal congestion, dizziness, abnormal vision, back pain, myalgia, nausea and rash. Important serious reactions reported with sildenafil include prolonged erection or priapism, sudden visual loss, and rare serious cardiovascular events reported after use in susceptible patients.
