Description
Melorise (Meloxicam) 7.5 mg
Melorise 7.5 mg contains meloxicam, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is used to relieve pain and inflammation in certain inflammatory joint conditions. Meloxicam is a prescription medicine with important safety considerations, particularly for the stomach, kidneys, heart, and blood pressure.
Active Ingredient and Medicine Class
The verified active ingredient is meloxicam. It belongs to the oxicam group of NSAIDs and is described in the medical literature as a COX-2 preferential inhibitor. This means it tends to inhibit cyclooxygenase-2 more than cyclooxygenase-1, which helps reduce prostaglandin production involved in pain and inflammation.
Established Medical Uses
Official prescribing information identifies meloxicam tablets for the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis; some labels also include juvenile rheumatoid arthritis in patients who meet the specified weight criterion. Clinical reviews and trials also support its anti-inflammatory and analgesic use in rheumatic conditions.
How It Works
Meloxicam reduces the body’s production of prostaglandins, substances that contribute to inflammation, pain, and swelling. Because it is COX-2 preferential, it is designed to act more strongly on inflammation-related pathways than on the COX-1 pathway, which helps explain its therapeutic effect while not eliminating NSAID-related risks.
Important Safety Information
Meloxicam should not be used in people with known hypersensitivity to meloxicam, a history of aspirin- or NSAID-related asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions, or in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft surgery. It carries standard NSAID warnings for serious gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, and perforation, which may occur without warning. Prescribing information also warns about kidney injury, liver toxicity, high blood pressure, fluid retention, anaphylaxis, serious skin reactions, and fetal risk later in pregnancy. Important interactions include anticoagulants and other medicines that increase bleeding risk, aspirin and other NSAIDs, SSRIs/SNRIs, and drugs that may reduce blood pressure control or affect kidney function.
Possible Side Effects
Common adverse effects reported with meloxicam include diarrhea, indigestion, upper respiratory tract infection, and influenza-like symptoms. More serious reactions can include gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, allergic reactions, severe skin reactions, worsening kidney function, liver injury, edema, and cardiovascular events associated with NSAID use.
Scientific Evidence
PubMed-indexed reviews and clinical studies describe meloxicam as an effective analgesic and anti-inflammatory NSAID for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Comparative studies found it broadly similar in symptom relief to several traditional NSAIDs, with some evidence of fewer gastrointestinal adverse effects, although NSAID safety risks remain clinically important.
