Minoxytop (Minoxidil) 2.5 mg
Minoxytop 2.5 mg contains minoxidil, an oral antihypertensive medicine used for difficult-to-control high blood pressure. It is a potent peripheral vasodilator and is reserved for selected patients because of its important safety considerations.

Established Medical Uses
Oral minoxidil is indicated for severe hypertension, especially when blood pressure is not adequately controlled with a diuretic plus other antihypertensive medicines. It is not recommended for milder hypertension because the benefit-risk balance has not been established.
How It Works
Minoxidil lowers blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels and reducing peripheral vascular resistance. This decreases the resistance the heart must pump against. Official information notes that the medicine can trigger reflex responses such as increased heart rate and fluid retention, which is why it is generally used with other medicines in clinical practice.
Important Safety Information
Minoxidil is contraindicated in pheochromocytoma and in people with hypersensitivity to the product components. Important warnings include fluid retention, edema, tachycardia, worsening or new angina, and pericardial effusion, which may rarely progress to tamponade. It can be problematic in patients with compromised renal function or heart failure. Official labeling also warns about interaction with guanethidine, which can cause profound orthostatic effects. It should be used only under close medical supervision.
Possible Side Effects
Common or clinically important adverse effects include increased heart rate, fluid retention, oedema, weight gain, and hypertrichosis (excess hair growth). More serious reactions can include pericardial effusion, pericarditis, worsening heart failure, and angina-related symptoms.

Published clinical studies and reviews in PubMed describe minoxidil as an effective option for patients with severe or refractory hypertension, including some with renal or renovascular disease. The evidence also consistently shows that its blood-pressure-lowering benefit is limited by reflex tachycardia and sodium and water retention, which are major reasons for careful patient selection and monitoring.
