How It Works

Important Safety Information
Mirabegron is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to mirabegron or any tablet ingredient. It can increase blood pressure, so caution is advised in patients with hypertension. It should be used carefully in patients with clinically significant bladder outlet obstruction or urinary retention risk. Mirabegron is also a moderate CYP2D6 inhibitor, so it can increase exposure to medicines metabolized by CYP2D6, including some narrow-therapeutic-index drugs.
Possible Side Effects
Commonly reported adverse effects include hypertension, nasopharyngitis, urinary tract infection, headache, constipation, tachycardia, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fatigue. Important serious reactions reported in prescribing information include urinary retention and angioedema.
Scientific Evidence
Clinical trials and reviews show that mirabegron improves key overactive bladder symptoms, including urgency, frequency, and incontinence episodes, with tolerability generally comparable to placebo in studied populations. Pooled trial analyses found small average increases in blood pressure and pulse at therapeutic doses, and a lower rate of dry mouth than typical antimuscarinic comparators.
