Description

Tastylia (Tadalafil) 20 mg ODF

Tastylia 20 mg ODF is a tadalafil-containing orally disintegrating film. Tadalafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor used in erectile dysfunction. This product name should be understood as an identification clue; the active ingredient and clinical profile are based on verified tadalafil information.

Active Ingredient and Medicine Class

Active ingredient: tadalafil.

Medicine class: phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor.

Tadalafil is a prescription medicine that acts on the nitric oxide–cyclic GMP pathway involved in penile smooth muscle relaxation.

Established Medical Uses

Regulatory prescribing information for tadalafil tablets identifies erectile dysfunction as an established indication. In some markets and products, tadalafil is also approved for benign prostatic hyperplasia and for erectile dysfunction with benign prostatic hyperplasia, but those uses are product- and jurisdiction-dependent.

How It Works

Tadalafil inhibits PDE5, the enzyme that breaks down cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). By slowing cGMP breakdown, it supports the vasodilatory signal that helps increase blood flow to erectile tissue during sexual stimulation. It does not create an erection by itself; sexual stimulation is still required.

Important Safety Information

Tadalafil is contraindicated with nitrates in any form because the combination can cause a marked fall in blood pressure. It is also contraindicated with guanylate cyclase stimulators such as riociguat. Prescribing information warns that tadalafil may not be suitable for men in whom sexual activity is inadvisable because of cardiovascular status. Caution is also advised with alpha-blockers, antihypertensives, potent CYP3A4 inhibitors such as ketoconazole or ritonavir, and in patients with significant renal or hepatic impairment.

Important precautions include priapism, sudden vision loss, and sudden hearing loss. Patients with recent major cardiovascular events or unstable cardiac disease were generally excluded from clinical trials, so safety in these groups is more limited.

Possible Side Effects

Common adverse effects reported with tadalafil include headache, dyspepsia, back pain, muscle pain, flushing, nasal congestion, and dizziness. More serious reactions can include prolonged erection, sudden decrease or loss of vision, sudden decrease or loss of hearing, and symptomatic hypotension, especially with interacting medicines.

Scientific Evidence

PubMed-indexed reviews describe tadalafil as a well-established PDE5 inhibitor for erectile dysfunction, with clinical benefit supported by placebo-controlled studies and a long duration of action relative to some other agents in the class. The peer-reviewed literature also supports the mechanism based on enhancement of the nitric oxide–cGMP pathway in erectile tissue.
