Description
Stenagra (Sildenafil) 200 mg
Stenagra 200 mg is a sildenafil-containing tablet. Sildenafil is a well-established phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor used for erectile dysfunction. The product name “Stenagra” has been treated here as a trade-name identifier; the medicine is described on the basis of the verified active ingredient, sildenafil.
Active Ingredient and Medicine Class
The active ingredient is sildenafil, a selective PDE5 inhibitor. This class affects the nitric oxide–cyclic guanosine monophosphate (NO-cGMP) pathway involved in penile smooth-muscle relaxation.
Established Medical Uses
Sildenafil is established for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in adult men. Regulatory labelling for sildenafil products also includes other indications for other formulations and strengths, but this description is limited to the use supported by the supplied product context and the verified evidence for erectile dysfunction.
How It Works
During sexual stimulation, nitric oxide increases cGMP in penile tissue, helping smooth muscle relax and allowing increased blood flow. Sildenafil blocks PDE5, the enzyme that breaks down cGMP, thereby prolonging this signalling effect. Its action depends on sexual stimulation; it does not create an erection by itself.
Important Safety Information
Sildenafil is contraindicated with organic nitrates because the combination can cause a marked drop in blood pressure. It should also not be used with riociguat. Important precautions include cardiovascular disease, conditions where sexual activity is inadvisable, a history of sudden vision loss or suspected NAION, anatomical penile deformation, and conditions that may predispose to priapism. Clinically significant interactions can occur with alpha-blockers, antihypertensive medicines, and strong CYP3A4 inhibitors that increase sildenafil exposure.
Possible Side Effects
Common adverse effects include headache, flushing, dyspepsia, nasal congestion, dizziness, back pain, myalgia, nausea, rash, and visual disturbance. Important but less common serious reactions include prolonged erection or priapism, sudden loss of vision, sudden hearing loss, and serious cardiovascular events reported after marketing.
Scientific Evidence
PubMed-indexed reviews and trials show that sildenafil improves erectile function compared with placebo across a broad range of causes of erectile dysfunction, with the best-known benefit profile established in men with erectile dysfunction. The published evidence also consistently describes a generally predictable safety profile dominated by vasodilatory and visual adverse effects.
